The Waxing Gibbous Moon is the phase that comes directly after the First Quarter Moon phase. You may remember from our previous article in this series that the First Quarter is when the moon is half of the size it appears to be when it is full, well the Waxing Gibbous is the phase where is three-quarters full, and it lasts until the Moon is completely full. This duration of this process about 3.5 days, and this is the last phase in the waxing cycle of the Moon.
The time during the Waxing Gibbous phase is ideal for enhancing any spell that you have been working on throughout previous Moon cycles. The energy that the Moon emanates during this phase is great to work with for increasing power in your life. For example: if you have been struggling at work, now may be a good time to add a little power to your motivation levels to increase your success in the workplace.
The Moon’s Waxing Gibbous phase is a great time to take charge of your life; to sit down and work on a plan. This is also good time to start preparing for the next Moon phase, the Full Moon. As many people believe that the Full Moon holds the most power out of all of the Moon’s cycles, and therefore, it might be wise to start planning a ritual during this time. Note: one can always start the ritual or spell during this phase and finish in the next phase. This particular Moon phase is also a good time to sit back and reflect on what you have accomplished during the preceding phases, and what goals or tasks you plan to achieve or complete in the following phase.
The Waxing Gibbous provides a small break before what some consider to be a power Moon cycle. As such, it is an excellent time to make a list of the goals you wish to achieve, and spend some time meditating to ensure the course you are on aligns with the goals you are seeking to achieve.
We have previously discussed keeping a Moon Journal (see prior Moon Magick articles). If this is something that you do in fact chose to utilize, now would be a good time to write in your journal. It is also a good time to review your goals and intentions previously recorded in your journal to ensure that they are still moving in the desired direction. If, for whatever reason, they do not align with your current desires, or you are not seeing the results you expected, simply amend them to better achieve your goal(s).
As previously mentioned, during this phase of the Moon would be a perfect time for taking a little break, i.e. taking some time for relaxation. As such, below is a simple meditation exercise you can do to focus and visualize the goal(s) you would like to achieve, followed by two additional visualization techniques to try during the Waxing Gibbous phase.
You will want to ensure that you are sitting in a comfortable position with your back in a straight, upright position, and your feet are flat on the floor. You will also want to ensure that your hands are in a comfortable position, we recommend placing them on the knees, as it is an ideal position for one’s hands during meditation.
Close your eyes and begin to focus on your breathing. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Focus on breathing in the good or the positive, and breathing out the bad or the negative.
Your breathing should be slow and steady. As you continue to breathe in this slow and steady place, try to clear your mind of everything that creates worry or stress, anything that has been bothering you, or weighing you down. Once your mind in clear, begin to focus on what goals you want to achieve. Pay attention to the end goal, as in where you want to be, where you see yourself in the end. Once you have this goal in mind, focus on what is required and you would need to do to achieve this goal. Make a mental list of each requirement, and focus on them individually. Once you have completed this, go back to focusing on your breathing for another minute or two. Afterwards, open your eyes, and write down your goal and the steps you would take to reach it. This is so that you have a hard copy of it to refer back to at a later date.
After you have finished this meditation exercise, it may benefit you to soak in a bath with some cleansing bath salts to promote relaxation. A recipe for a relaxation bath salt is below.
Cleansing & Relaxation Bath Salt
- ½ cup epsom salt
- ¼ cup fine white sea salt
- ¼ cup coarse himaayan pink salt
- ¼ cup fresh or dried lavender
- ¼ cup fresh or dried corn flowers
- 2 drops Ylang Ylang oil
- 4 drops lavender oil
- 3 drops frankincense oil
- 15 drops vitamin e oil
Be sure to thoroughly mix all of the ingredients together until they are well blended. Sprinkle a handful into your bath to relax and clear the mind.
Visualization Techniques for the Waxing Gibbous Moon
Often, visualizing your goals can assist with the creation of a plan, or the necessary steps to take in order to help you achieve your goal(s).
Picture yourself at the bottom of a staircase with each step being a step toward meeting your goals. In your mind, label your first step as where you currently are, and your last step as where you want to be. Make each step a manageable and obtainable goal.
As you label your steps, concentrate on how you will transmute that goal into something real. Then, take one step at a time. Continue up the steps until you reach the final one. Before you realize it, you will have a solid plan to be standing on that top step.
Picture yourself as a tree. Picture your feet as the roots. Your hands are stretched above your head, and your fingers become branches. Each branch reaching toward the Sun. On each leaf, is written a word. Each word being a goal or change you want to make for yourself. You will then determine what exactly is required to achieve the goal or change written on each leaf.
