The Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana) is associated with the element of Water and is generally associated with the color orange. This Chakra’s function is said to be guided by the principle of pleasure. The Sacral Chakra is located about three inches below the navel at the center of your lower belly.

With this Chakra being associated with the element of Water, it is often associated with things like: feelings, emotions, and one’s relationships. It is also associated with the expression of sexuality, sensual pleasure, creativity, and even one’s fantasies.

When in balance, with the Sacral being motivated by pleasure, it is the power force for the enjoyment of life through our senses. This includes auditory, taste, touch, and sight. As such, it is the foundation of our feelings and closely tied to one’s well-being. When this Chakra is in balance, our relationship with the world and other people tends to be more nurturing, pleasurable, and harmonious.

However, when the Sacral Chakra is out of balance, it can lead to things like dependency/ co-dependency with other people or substances that grant easy and “instant access” to pleasure. Likewise, it can cause us to be ruled by our emotions, and therefore, potentially leading us to shut out all logic and truth. Or it can create the opposite effect. It can cause one to feel numb, or out of touch with oneself and feelings. When unbalanced, it can lead to the overindulgence in fantasies, or even sexual addiction. However, it can also lead to the lack of sexual desire or satisfaction. It can lead one to feel that he/she is stuck in a particular mood or place.

With this in mind, when the Sacral Chakra is in balance and functioning along with a balanced Root Chakra, it can create great pleasure, whether it is emotional or sexual, and give a heightened perception with respect to one’s senses.

With respect to healing and balancing this Chakra, one may use crystals or stones, such as: Carnelian, Orange Sapphire, Peach Moonstone, Orange Fluorite, or Orange Kyanite.
